The MobileHelp Classic is a cellular medical alert system which means you don’t need to have a landline to use it and you can move the base unit around the house. Without long-term contracts, and for a fairly average monthly fee, you’ll get everything you need from an in-home system.
Furthermore, additional features and accessories are also quite inexpensive. Plus, MobileHelp offers an extremely affordable option to bundle the Classic with a GPS-enabled mobile system. We’ve concluded while running tests for our MobileHelp Classic review that the help pendant has a very modest range, and there’s no landline option, but that’s about it when it comes to the negatives.
Luckily, there are plenty of landline medical alert systems around, some of which have much longer ranges. However, we didn’t find the pendant range to be enough of a dealbreaker to stop us from recommending this overall excellent solution. Mobile Help Classic Design & Major Features
The Classic and ADT’s Medical Alert Plus system use similar equipment. Their base unit has a very distinctive look. The white device features huge buttons that glow all the time. This makes them unmissable and easy to find in the dark. However, you can’t turn them off or dim them. The largest of the three is the red emergency button on the left, while on the right there’s a smaller blue reset button. There is also a small test button in the middle which allows you to test the equipment without calling the response center.
All the buttons surround a 2.2 x 0.75 inch LCD panel which displays the time and date, room temperature, cellular signal, and battery levels. This system’s 30-hour backup battery performed well during our MobileHelp Classic review. The display and buttons occupy one half of the upper face of the base unit while the other half is covered with a microphone/speaker grill. It allows loud and clear two-way communication with the emergency response center.
The help button is a choice of a white neck pendant or a black or white wristband. All of them are waterproof and suitable to be worn in the shower. They have a discreet gray help button and an LED indicator. If you are wondering how far away from the device can you be when using MobileHelp Classic, the distance tops off at 600 feet, which is quite modest. To get a longer range, you can move the cellular base unit in and around the house. For instance, if you have a large yard, put the base unit on the porch to maximize your protection range when you’re outside. You can also bring the system with you on vacation and be protected wherever there’s AT&T coverage.
Additional Features & Accessories
While you cannot add GPS functionality to your help button, you can bundle the Classic and the Mobile Help Solo, which is their mobile medical alert system. This is an amazingly affordable option that’s well worth considering. It will grant you complete protection, and it is one of the best deals for people who like to have both systems. Having an in-home and mobile system has its advantages, like not having to charge your device every day, though you can always get a mobile system.
MobileHelp also offers other highly affordable additional features. First of all, free medication reminders are included in the Mobile Help cost for all payment options. Just schedule them online, and you’ll receive medication reminders on your base unit. Next, unlike most other systems, their lockbox doesn’t have a monthly fee. Instead, you can buy it for a one-time payment of $29.95.
Adding a MobileHelp fall button that allows automatic fall detection will set you back $10 per month and will also enable user activity tracking. We’ll come back to this option later in the setup section of our MobileHelp Classic review. Additional regular help and wall-mounted buttons are just $2 per month. Therefore, multiperson monitoring is also extremely affordable. MobileHelp does not have voice extension or fire and smoke monitoring, two somewhat rarely offered additional features.
MobileHelp Classic Reviews & Monitoring Services
Moving on to the assessment of their 24/7 monitoring services, we’ve experienced satisfactory response times. While it occasionally took the live agents up to 40 seconds to pick up, response times averaged around 35 seconds. These results are on par with those in other reviews. Communication with the help agents was always loud and clear. They were very professional and pleasant to talk to, even after numerous test calls.
If we take a look at customer reviews on sites like the Better Business Bureau, we’ll see that they are overwhelmingly positive. At the time of writing this review, there were over 30 positive reviews and no negative ones. This, in turn, adds up to a five out of five-star rating (one of the best we’ve seen for a medical alert service), or an A+ Mobile Help BBB rating. Moreover, there are 900+ user reviews on the official MobileHelp website with an average rating of over 9/10. All of this suggests that this is a trustworthy company with a reliable monitoring service.
Contracts & Fees
MobileHelp does not charge a device fee for the Classic, though there is an activation fee of around $50. You then have to pay for the monitoring service, which is around $20 per month if you choose to make monthly payments. You can further decrease the Mobile Help prices, even though this is by far the best deal for a cellular medical alert system. By opting for quarterly, semi-annual, or annual payments, you can save $33, 30$, or $60, respectively. All of these plans also get you free medication reminders (as does the monthly plan) and free ground shipping, while the annual plan also gives you a free 13th month of service.
It’s important to note that no contracts are required, and there are no hidden fees. Comparing Mobile Help vs Life Alert, the most famous medical alert company, Mobile Help comes out on top in every important aspect. They also offer a 30-day risk-free trial period during which you can try the system and cancel the services if they don’t fulfill your expectations. As evident from their name, this company specializes in mobile solutions. So there isn’t a less expensive landline option. However, the cellular fees are included, and no cellular contract is required.
MobileHelp’s Solo mobile medical alert system is also quite affordable, costing around $38 per month, just $8 more than the Classic. But the real steal is the Mobile Help Duo, which bundles the Classic and the Solo into one option. The price of this solution is around $42 per month, instead of $68, which is the sum of the individual prices of the systems. Even though we recommend opting only for a mobile system (if you need it), we must say that this is a very appealing option.

You can order the Classic system by phone by calling the toll-free, 1-800-992-0616. Or you can order it online on MobileHelp’s official website. A MobileHelp login is not necessary at this point, but you should create an account to take full advantage of all offered services. After you’ve selected the payment plan and any additional features you want and the filled in your personal information, you can expect your devices to arrive shortly. If you’ve opted for a minimum of three months of use, you’ll get free ground shipping. Otherwise, the delivery fee is $15. Seeing as this is a cellular system, you only need to plug the base unit into a power outlet, and once the system tells you it’s ready, you’re good to go!
After running a test call, you can proceed to set up MobileHelp Connect. This is a set of online tools intended to help users and authorized caregivers, who can actively participate in the user’s health and well-being. The extent of the Connect service depends on the system and features you’ve opted for. Also, some features are free, and some come with an additional fee in the form of Connect Premium. Because GPS technology is required, location monitoring only works for MobileHelp mobile GPS systems. When it comes to activity tracking, this feature works with a fall detection pendant.
